“Dignified Transportation for Seniors”

The Independent Transportation Network ITN is a nonprofit, membership organization dedicated to helping seniors (65 and older) and the visually impaired with their transportation needs. Using private automobiles and both volunteer and paid drivers, the ITN will transport these community members 24 hours a day, seven days a week anywhere within the ITN service area. Known as ITNCharlestonTrident™, the initiative offers door-through-door, arm-through-arm, dignified transportation service to seniors and the visually impaired, and peace of mind to their families.

Service Areas:
ITN serves the populated areas of Charleston, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Summerville, Hanahan, Goose Creek, Moncks Corner, Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island and a number of adjacent neighborhoods. The service area will grow with additional volunteers and private resources. Eventually, ITN will expand throughout the tri-county area (Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester).

Benefits of ITN:
ITNCharlestonTrident™ offers to seniors choice, freedom, and an extra level of assistance:

  • Transportation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week within a defined service area.
  • Volunteer and paid drivers provide rides and door-through-door customer assistance.
  • Community partnerships help reduce costs for seniors, through programs such as:

    1. Shop & Ride
    2. Healthy Miles
    3. Road Scholarships
    4. Gift certificates from family and friends.

Older adults establish memberships in ITNCharlestonTrident™ and maintain personal transportation accounts to pay for their transportation. ITNCharlestonTrident™ will supplement - not replace - existing transportation options for older and visually impaired adults in the communities it serves.
